Emilio Platti

Emilio Platti, born in 1943 of Italian-Flemish origin, and a Dominican since 1962, is a member of the Dominican Institute of Eastern Studies of Cairo, a professor of Islamic theology at the Catholic University of Leuven (KUL) and at the Catholic Institute of Paris. His research interests revolve around the Christian Arab medieval literature, the transmission of ancient wisdom through the Arab-Islamic culture, and the relation between the contemporary Islam and modernity. A Member of the ‘el-kalima' centre for Islamic-Christian relations (in Brussels). He has published extensively on the issue and his work includes many articles and books, such as: Strange Islam? Beyond the appearances, to the heart of the Islamic Act and Faith (Cerf, 2000) ; and Muslims under us. A Finished bid (1998) . Platti also participated in 2008 in high-level talks between 138 Moslem religious leaders and a Christian delegation to Rome with the pope.
